Problems with my home.asp application on my wifi router

16 hours 58 min ago
Hi,
Yesterday I updated a firmware of my wifi router (small black box with antenna). The router is managed via web browser at address 192.168.1.100. I opened Mozilla Firefox connected to the router, but a 'home.asp' application - an interface one can to set up a configuration - running on the router didn't work properly. When I tried to change some settings, and eg. clicked a confirmation button nothing happened. I solved the problem staring Windows and making a connection using IE - this time that home.asp application did OK. The question is what may caused problems? A bug in this app or in general *.asp applications don't communicate well with browsers other than IE or simply they don't 'like' Linux?

newer kernel won't start

17 hours 2 min ago
I have Fed 12, running on kernel 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 I have newer kernels installed, but they will not boot into X.

The updater installed the kernel 2.6.32.21-166.fc12.i686. I can boot into runlevel 3. But if I then give the command startx, I almost get an x-window, I can see the top and bottom, ermm, wadjecallems, beams, but the screen is blank, and then the machine freezes. I can only switch off.

Can anyone help me get newer kernels started? Where should I look for problems?

glibc recompile

17 hours 16 min ago
Howdy all

Would someone please advise of any sites I may go to with details on how to recompile glibc after the system has been built?

I seem to be able to recompile all other software included in the standard build of a (C)LFS system except glibc which when using the same options (excluding references to /tool of course) now errors when running the test:

glibc-build/elf/tst-xmmymm.out

This test consistently fails with an Error 1 and so I am unable to reinstall.

So I figure my configure / compile time options must need to change, but I am unsure as to what to :(

Cheers
grail

Note: version is currently - glibc-2.11.2

If I exit an SSH session, would it terminate transfers from one server to another?

17 hours 21 min ago
I SSH into a few servers now and then, oftentimes to copy large files or a large amount of files from one server to another. Typically I use either scp, ftp, or rsync.

My question is, what happens if I get a transfer going (scp, ftp, rsync) and then quit out of the SSH session? Would the operation/transfer still proceed, or does it end as soon as I would close Putty or whatever SSH client?

The reason I'm asking is because oftentimes, these transfers can take some time, but it only takes me a few seconds to give the command. It would be handy if I didn't have to worry about keeping the SSH connection going, but I'm just not sure how that works.

huge problem with apf and csf on ubuntu 10.04

17 hours 46 min ago
Hi List.
I have huge problem with above firewalls scripts and can't find solutions.
I use apf on few ubuntu 9.X servers with standard configuration. Port 80,25,110,587 is open. I also open all ports for my company's IP.
I did the same on ubuntu 10.04 but server is not accessible for anyone except me. I've checked conf.apf several time, I've also download conf.apf from ubuntu 9.X server and got the same situation.

After several days of trying I've decided to use another script - csf.
CSF seemed to work ok except one strange behavior. Every morning I can't access my server from dynamic IP at my home. Last login to pop3 at 23:30 with ip 95.49.X.X. Next day I have still the same IP but can't access any port. I've greped logs and iptable -L -v and found nothing.

Any hint? This is very annoying!

eth0 is not working in RHEL5

Thu, 09/09/2010 - 04:38
Hi,

I have installed RHEL-5 (2.6.18-53) on my Desktop (ASUS Motherboard with Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controler 8168). After installation eth0 is not detecting. I downloaded R8168 drivers from Relatek site, but I am unable to install as it's throwing the following error.

LXer: Linux Mint Debian Edition - 1st Impression

Thu, 09/09/2010 - 04:32
Published at LXer:

It's been long time since I tried Linux Mint for the 1st time and loved it. Only problem is that it was Ubuntu based. Well, I love Ubuntu, but it's not 100%, and after my upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 without a full reinstall that didn't went well, it came down a few points in my consideration. I had one bad night, since i needed the pc fully operational next day (its a work PC). So I tried everything else on market, but can't handle with anything else than Debian based OS

RSYNC Challange, copying 800GB via 200GB EXT HDD

Thu, 09/09/2010 - 04:23
Hey Forum :)
I've got a little rsync challange for myself, I've got lets say 800GB of data, I'm trying to get it to a mate's PC, and need to be able to copy it in 200GB chunks.

What I was thinking is.... I should be able to get Rsync to keep copying until it fills the drive, and output which files it syncs. Then use that list as an exclude list the next time... Providing my directory structure doesn't change, this should work.

BUT!!! How do I get rsync to do this? I know of the --include and --exclude options, but am not sure how to use them in this case...

Thanks!

Expecting OOPS dump but system just freezes

Thu, 09/09/2010 - 04:12
Hi,

I wanted to see how the run-time call stack looks like at a particular location in a function, so I just added BUG() call there and expected to get a OOPS call stack trace.
However my system just freezes with the NUM & CAPS lock keys flashing and there is no OOPS output on the screen.

Did I miss anything while building the kernel. The kernel version is 2.6.24.4 (Fedora 8) and nearly all the options under Kernel Hacking are checked.

Any pointer will be appreciated.
Thanks,

Regards,
Abhijit

This guide explains how to integrate XCache into PHP5 on a Fedora 13 or CentOS 5.5 system (with Apache2). From the XCache project page: "XCache is a fast, stable PHP opcode cacher that has been tested and is now running on production servers under high load." It's similar to other PHP opcode cachers, such as eAccelerator and APC.

Perl backquotes on Fedora-13 problem

Thu, 09/09/2010 - 03:27
Hi

When executing the following perl statements on Fedora-13, error messages will be output.

statement:
Code: use strict;
use warnings;
my $tr = `ls`; error messages:
Code: Can't exec "ls": No such file or directory at test.pl line 3 But if I use absolute path `/bin/ls` instead of `ls` in the line 3. It worked fine. Perl version is v5.10.1.
This only happens on Fedora-13. Is this a perl issue or Fedora-13 issue?
If I just want to use `ls`(its output is desired), not `/bin/ls`, how can I do it without error?

Bored. Need Project

Thu, 09/09/2010 - 03:27
Hello all,

I have a triple boot system - Vista (which I never use), Ubuntu Hardy (always use) and Slackware 12.1 (not used in a long time and is mainly a backup OS). Was thinking of doing something with my Slackware 12.1 because its just sitting idle and so am I. Looked through the net for "Cool things to do in Linux" and didn't find the suggestions like setting up a music webserver or a home server very appealing. Would like something based more on compiling source code.

Was thinking of this:
Compile from scratch an entire desktop system - KDE with QT and all desktop effects.

Anyone know of anything people are doing related to compiling packages?

Thanks.
