snap2 rotating snapshot backups for Linux

I have created a Debian/Ubuntu binary installation package named d2x-xl-demo for D2X-XL.

D2X-XL is an improved version of the classic game Descent II (Windows/Mac/Linux).  This package contains 2 demo levels which give a good idea of this amazing game.  To get more (and better) levels, you need to buy the original (vintage 1996) game data, which is inexpensive.  It can be purchased for download for about $6 from http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/descent_1_descent_2

Yesterday I got an email from Rimuhosting warning me about too-high load on my server.  It turned out that there was a runaway process (aftermath of executing a bugged CGI script) that was consuming 90%+ of the CPU resources on my VPS.

Of course, I immediately killed the process, which ended this issue.   read more »

Update:
nux kernel 2.6.30.1 and later have an updated version of the ti_usb_3410_5052 driver that works with the USB connection Multitech multimodem "out of the box."  Puppy 4.3 uses such a recent kernel.  Therefore, as-of Puppy 4.3, my driver package described in this article is no longer needed.  The only thing of continued usefulness here is my "pgprs" setup utility, which is included in the stock Puppy.  In sum, if you have a Multitech USB connection GPRS/EDGE/CDMA modem, get yourself a recent version of Puppy, and you're set.   read more »
